Undeclared state of emergency against CHP rally in Bayburt
The venue for the 'Defending the National Will' rally to be held by the CHP in Bayburt was denied. Meanwhile, the university in the city has been put on break, and KYK dormitories have been evacuated.
The Republican People's Party (CHP) is preparing to hold the 10th of its "Defending the National Will" rallies in Bayburt, which it launched following the arrest of Ekrem İmamoğlu.
However, permission was not granted for the area where the CHP wanted to hold the rally. It did not stop there; instructions were given to evacuate the KYK dormitories affiliated with the Ministry of Youth and Sports. Bayburt University also went on break ahead of the rally. Students staying in the KYK dormitories were informed that they had to vacate the dorms by 5:00 PM on Friday.
The rally, which will be held with the participation of CHP Chairman Özgür Özel, will take place in front of the Genç Osman Stadium at 1:30 PM. CHP members of parliament went to Bayburt days in advance to begin field work for the rally preparations.
Providing information about the preparation process, CHP Deputy Chairman Gökan Zeybek stated that a rally would be held in Bayburt for the first time in 14 years. Zeybek said, "In 2011, Mr. Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu met with the public at the Clock Tower. Since that date, no rallies have been held in Bayburt, nor have candidates been fielded. However, the CHP is now Turkey's leading party, and its leader meets with the public in every corner of Turkey."
Pointing out that Bayburt is one of Turkey's smallest provinces and that the CHP was represented with low vote shares in the region in the past, Zeybek expressed that they have nevertheless observed a strong desire for change in the city. He also drew attention to the political pressure felt in the city, stating, "Many citizens say they are afraid of being visible, fearing that otherwise their children will lose their jobs or they will lose their own livelihoods."
It was stated that in addition to Bayburt's local issues, topics such as lawlessness, injustice, and the economic crisis across Turkey would be addressed at the rally. It was reported that Chairman Özgür Özel would arrive in Bayburt today and return to Istanbul after spending the night in the city.
