Former IYI Party member Erdem comments: 'IYI Party has turned its direction toward the People's Alliance'

The IYI Party, which announced that it had rejected the alliance proposal with the CHP following the General Administrative Board (GİK) meeting held in December, had stated that it would participate in the elections to be held on March 31 with its own candidates in all 81 provinces.

Stating that the IYI Party has shifted its course toward the People's Alliance and that the primary goal is to cause the opposition to lose, Erdem explained that the mathematics of the elections are clear and that, for this reason, the idea of a middle path or a third way is nothing more than a fallacy.

Highlights from the statements Erdem made during the live broadcast are as follows:

"What is happening is this: the IYI Party has turned its direction from the Nation Alliance to the People's Alliance. The current goal of the IYI Party is not for the opposition to win. The support for Erdoğan's election comes from the parties beside him. Here, as we head into a local election, every election has its own mathematics. When you look at this mathematics, I, for one, do not like the current system. I cried my eyes out on these television channels for months.

"HOW WILL OUR POLITICS BE?"

During the referendum process, I exhausted myself saying 'no, this will not work.' First and foremost, sensible people and sensible legal experts do not like this system. However, the reality before us right now is this system. We have to act according to this reality. So, how will our politics be? It will either be on the side of law and justice or against them. We will either agree with the Constitutional Court (AYM) regarding the rights violations of Can Atalay, or we will say that the AYM is not right and that it is correct for the Court of Cassation (Yargıtay) not to comply with AYM decisions and not to recognize the Constitution.

"THERE IS NO MIDDLE PATH!"

Now, is there a middle ground between these two? No, there isn't. A middle path for what? Tell me, a middle path for what? Either justice or injustice. Either law or lawlessness.

There is no middle path for this. I am saying this with emphasis, and our dear viewers, all citizens of Turkey, must internalize this. These local elections, if they don't mind me saying, are not just local elections.

Because we have no other elections legally before us until 2028, and we know that the AKP government has governed Turkey more dominantly after every election it has won. The AKP government, its supporters, those on television, the contractors, whoever they may be; all together in every election, whether a cat enters the transformer or this happens or that happens, whether they are right or wrong, but in the end, whenever they win every election by 1 percent or 1.5 percent—please look from the 2009-2010 referendum onwards—we are facing much more severe things in this country.

"THERE IS NO BALANCE LEFT IN THE CONSTITUTION"

There is no balance left in the Constitution; the independence of the legislature, the executive, and the judiciary is disappearing. In that case, we need to ensure this balance by having citizens give the metropolitan municipalities to the opposition in the local elections. Whoever works against this, everyone sees what the IYI Party is doing. Everyone sees what the IYI Party is aiming for; let no one fool themselves. Will the IYI Party's candidate win in Istanbul? Every election has its own mathematics.

The vote share received by the IYI Party's candidate will only and solely make the job of the opposition figure with the highest vote count against the AKP more difficult. That name is Ekrem İmamoğlu. Who will it benefit? What middle path? Which third way? It will benefit the AKP, it will benefit Murat Kurum, and ultimately, it will benefit Erdoğan."
