The lawsuit filed by the İBB regarding the zoning plan for the Kanal İstanbul Project has been concluded.

The court cancelled the zoning plan amendment made by the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change regarding the 1st Stage of the Yenişehir Reserve Building Area (Kanal İstanbul Project).

The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) had objected to the 1/5000 scale Master Zoning Plan and 1/1000 scale Implementation Zoning Plan Amendment for the 1st Stage of the Istanbul Province, Yenişehir Reserve Building Area (Kanal İstanbul Project), which was approved by the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change on July 15, 2021, and suspended for one month starting from July 16, 2021.

The Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change implicitly rejected the İBB's objection regarding the zoning plan amendment in question. Following this action, the İBB took the matter to court to have the zoning plan cancelled.

İMAMOĞLU ANNOUNCED

In a statement on his social media account, İBB Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu announced the decision as follows:

"Istanbul residents objected, and the Kanal İstanbul plans have been cancelled.

The 11th Administrative Court found the objections to the plan prepared by the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, which would bring millions of new residents to our city and destroy its nature and water resources, to be justified."
