IMM Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu lashes out: 'You insolent person! You cannot open your mouth in my presence'

The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) November ordinary assembly meeting was held today. The meeting was marked by an 'Ahmet Özer' debate between İmamoğlu and AKP members.

During the meeting, IMM Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu made harsh criticisms regarding the arrest of Esenyurt Mayor Ahmet Özer on allegations of being a "member of a terrorist organization" and the subsequent appointment of a trustee in his place.

In his speech at the podium, İmamoğlu reacted by saying, "You raid the home of a 65-year-old man at 5 a.m., take him from his wife's side and throw him in jail, you plan it and appoint a trustee. There is no option for the assembly to elect, why? What is the reason?"

Upon an AKP council member's response of "Because of terror," İmamoğlu responded sharply to this statement. 

İmamoğlu said the following:

-Who are you to call the man a terrorist, who are you? Are you acting as a judge? It is shameful. You think you will win elections by calling this nation 'terrorists,' you cannot win. Forget that business.

-Look, there is a secret witness, there is no testimony from the secret witness. You will be ashamed of what you said about a 65-year-old man, do you know that?

-Let the judge speak. You do not speak. If something happens to you, I will defend you, but you cannot do this. Do you know why? This is called political captivity.

-You will not call the nation terrorists. They will shut that word in your mouth. Not you, let the judge speak. We will end the culture of winning elections by dividing people, my brother. Do not shout from there! I will not treat you as a person.

-Why are you shouting at me, you insolent person! You cannot open your mouth in my presence. What kind of shouting is that from there? You cannot shout while I am speaking, you insolent person.
