As the local elections approach, political parties continue to announce their mayoral candidates.

Following Başak Demirtaş's withdrawal from candidacy, the DEM Party's Istanbul candidates became Meral Danış Beştaş and Murat Çepni.

Before the DEM Party announced its candidates, Ahmet Türk, the DEM Party's candidate for Mardin Metropolitan Municipality, appeared on a television program and shared his assessments regarding the local elections.

"IF ERDOĞAN WANTS TO SOLVE THE KURDISH ISSUE, HE CAN"

"We did not have faith that Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu would solve the Kurdish issue. We still don't today," said Türk, adding, "The CHP does not have the capacity to solve such a massive problem. There is no leader there today. If he wants to solve it, Erdoğan can, because he is a leader."

"WE SUPPORTED THE CHP BUT THERE IS NO LEADER"

"We supported the CHP, but the will and leadership to solve the Kurdish issue are not there," said Ahmet Türk, arguing that there is no system within the CHP to embrace the Kurds. "Mr. Özgür Özel is a democratic person, but I do not think there is a structure within the CHP that will embrace the Kurds and claim their rights and freedoms," he stated.

"DEMİRTAŞ'S STANCE WAS CORRECT"

Ahmet Türk also touched upon Başak Demirtaş's decision to withdraw her candidacy for Istanbul. "I think Başak Demirtaş's stance was correct. She showed an attitude that embraces the party. The important thing here was the message regarding fielding candidates from all over Turkey," he said.

A STATEMENT HAD COME FROM SELAHATTİN DEMİRTAŞ

On the other hand, before the DEM Party announced its Istanbul candidates, Selahattin Demirtaş had made a written statement.

The most notable part of Demirtaş's statement was regarding a meeting with the AKP.

"I don't know if there is any traffic of meetings between the DEM Party and the AKP," said Demirtaş, adding, "But if there isn't, this is a major deficiency for both parties. All parties should be able to meet and talk to solve the country's and society's problems. This is extremely legitimate, and given the current process, it is even a duty and a responsibility."
