MHP deputy's 'gentleman' remark about Öcalan: 'A slip of the tongue'
MHP Afyonkarahisar Deputy Mehmet Taytak referred to terrorist leader Abdullah Öcalan as a "gentleman" during a program. Following the backlash, Taytak stated that his expression was a slip of the tongue.
MHP Afyonkarahisar Deputy Mehmet Taytak attended a program organized by the MHP Afyonkarahisar Provincial Presidency as part of the January 10 Working Journalists Day.
During his speech at the event, Taytak's reference to terrorist leader Abdullah Öcalan as a "gentleman" caused a significant stir.
"ÖCALAN THE GENTLEMAN WILL MAKE A STATEMENT"
While discussing Turkey's fight against terrorism and the MHP's determined stance on the issue during the program, Taytak used the following expressions:
"We are doing our best for a strong and terror-free Turkey. Our fight against terrorist organizations such as the PKK and YPG will continue. In the coming days, Abdullah Öcalan the gentleman will also make a statement."
"IT WAS A SLIP OF THE TONGUE"
Making a statement after his words became a trending topic on social media and drew reactions, Taytak stated that his expression was misunderstood and said the following:
"My tongue slipped during the speech. For us, Abdullah Öcalan is a terrorist. It was an expression I used as a reflex while addressing someone as a lady or a gentleman. I am sorry that it caused a misunderstanding."
