The new legislative proposal by the AKP, which has drawn intense criticism for potentially paving the way for mining in olive groves, has begun to be discussed in the TBMM Industry, Trade, Energy, Natural Resources, Information and Technology Committee.

Some members of parliament were not allowed into the meeting. In addition to numerous environmental advocates who could not enter the TBMM, citizens who were able to reach the entrance of the committee hall also faced intervention.

Members of the National Olive Council who wanted to follow the committee meeting were not allowed near the hall door by security forces. In the ensuing scuffle, some citizens were injured due to physical intervention.

VARANK ALSO IN THE FIGHT

According to the report in BirGün, Committee Chairman Mustafa Varank also participated in the scuffle at the entrance of the committee hall. AKP member Varank pushed the CHP members of parliament he encountered at the entrance of the hall. CHP members of parliament who reacted to Varank faced intervention from some AKP members of parliament.

The intervention of Eskişehir MP Nebi Hatipoğlu, who controversially switched from the IYI Party to the AKP, against the CHP members of parliament drew attention. It was observed that Hatipoğlu walked towards CHP members of parliament Orhan Sarıbal and Ednan Arslan.

While discussions regarding the intervention that citizens and some members of parliament were subjected to continued, Committee Chairman Varank opened the meeting.
