Striking response from CHP's Gökhan Günaydın to Osman Gökçek

Speaking at the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM), AKP Ankara MP Osman Gökçek accused the history of the CHP, stating, "Going on Hajj was forbidden until 1948, you tortured my nationalist brothers, and you committed atrocities in Tunceli in 1938."

AKP MP Osman Gökçek accused the CHP of its history, and when CHP Group Deputy Chairman Gökhan Günaydın took the floor to respond to Gökçek, tension erupted in the chamber.

Taking the podium after Gökçek, CHP Group Deputy Chairman and Istanbul MP Gökhan Günaydın said, “I feel very unlucky to have to respond to a person named Osman Gökçek who occupies a seat in the TBMM. He has no right to speak about the history of the CHP. We conduct our entire political life in accordance with our own heritage.

If you ask, ‘You were an MP for 5 years, how did you buy your house and car,’ I will give the answer to all of them. Because I am a respected member of the TBMM. You are a family that sold Ankara parcel by parcel. You are a family that did not vacate the house allocated to your father by the Ankara Metropolitan Municipality (ABB) and used its vehicle for 2 more years.

As for the history of the CHP, it is the party that saved this country from the hands of imperialists, founded this country, and did not let a single enemy boot step into this land during the Second World War. You will think five times before taking the name of the CHP into your mouth.

While you should be on trial, you are sitting here and criticizing the nation. If we were in a state of law, you and your father would spend your lives in prison. These days will pass, and when the country becomes a state of law, we will hold you accountable for all of this,” he replied.
