Will CHP and Memleket Party cooperate in the local elections? Statement from Özgür Özel and Muharrem İnce!

Memleket Party leader Muharrem İnce visited Özgür Özel at the CHP Headquarters today at 10:00 AM. Özel was accompanied by CHP Secretary General Selin Sayek Böke and Deputy Chairmen Deniz Yücel and Gül Çiftci.

While the meeting was described as a courtesy visit, it was expected that cooperation regarding the upcoming local elections would also be on the agenda. However, after the meeting, both leaders addressed the crisis between the Court of Cassation and the Constitutional Court (AYM).

ÖZEL: OUR AGENDA IS THE CONSTITUTION

"Our agenda is the constitutional crisis; you will not hear anything about the local elections today," said Özel, who continued as follows;

"They came to our party to offer their well wishes. We thank them. During the meeting, we discussed national issues and the problems of the people, and we reached a consensus on maintaining dialogue and contact in the coming period. While we were holding our meeting, we followed the reports in your broadcasts today mentioning the CHP mayoral candidates we were going to announce. Friends, yesterday the final act of a coup attempt was played out, which disregards the AYM decision and therefore means suspending the constitution. Under these conditions, I announced via a social media post yesterday that our Party Assembly would meet with a special agenda following our MYK meeting to be held today as the CHP. Today, you will not hear anything from us regarding a mayoral candidate or the local elections. The extraordinary agenda of our MYK and our Party Assembly is the coup attempt against the constitution we are currently facing. We will discuss the CHP's roadmap from now on, together with the social opposition. Our party assembly will meet again with today's agenda on a day to be determined next week."

Muharrem İnce, who spoke after Özel, said the following;

"We came to wish Özgür Özel, who was newly elected as chairman, well as the Memleket Party. We expressed our concerns regarding the upcoming election process.

"THE JUDICIARY IS THE GOVERNMENT'S STICK"

As you know, the courthouse, the police, and the civil administration of this country have been seized; the judiciary in the country has become the government's stick. It is impossible for the rules of the economy to function properly in a place where there is no judiciary. If the judiciary in Turkey does not distribute justice, poverty is inevitable in that country. Let me repeat once again: the judiciary feeds the people. The judiciary in Turkey must come to its senses. The judiciary in Turkey is dragging us into poverty. If the dollar has reached 30 liras today and the euro is heading towards 35 liras, the primary culprits are the judges, the magistrates, and the politicians. This scares me. Suppressed exchange rates and bringing people into line through the judiciary scare us regarding the future of our country. In the last election, unfortunately, there is a government that has captured both the presidency and the parliamentary majority. This election is being entered with this psychological superiority. That is why we conveyed our views to Mr. Özgür Özel, as the CHP is the flagship."
