Warning to the government from retirees: 'It will create a Hiroshima effect in the elections'

The regulation for a 20,000 TL base pension, implemented for millions of retirees across Turkey, has come into effect. However, the raise was found insufficient by some circles.

Former AKP deputy Şamil Tayyar warned his party on this issue in harsh terms through a message shared on his social media account.

Tayyar stated that the country's 17 million retirees are experiencing great dissatisfaction due to the economic bottleneck and expressed that the government cannot avoid responsibility in this matter. He emphasized that current pension policies should be questioned with the words, 'Let's sit straight and talk straight. If there is a problem in the pension system today, we broke it a bit ourselves, just like in the EYT issue. Moreover, we have been in power for 24 years.'

'IT WILL CREATE A HIROSHIMA EFFECT'

Furthermore, Tayyar drew attention to the impact of retirees' economic difficulties on the election process, stating, 'If this problem cannot be overcome, the anger of retirees will create a Hiroshima effect at the ballot box. Moreover, the situation of retirees is not a field for political fantasy. If we cannot share their hardships, at least let us not play with their emotions.'
