The party's stance in the event of a possible constitutional amendment has also become clear. Here are the details...
The Republican People's Party (CHP) convened its Central Executive Board (MYK) following its meeting with the DEM Party. During the meeting, chaired by Chairman Özgür Özel, the progression of the process and political developments were discussed.
At the meeting, it was stated that the Kurdish issue should be evaluated within the framework of Turkey's democratization, while attention was drawn to the appointment of trustees, unlawful practices, and constitutional violations. Party officials emphasized that the process is not being conducted transparently and is being used as political fodder, stressing that President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan must take initiative on this matter.
In line with Özgür Özel's recent statements that "the address for a solution is Parliament," it was expressed at the MYK meeting that a solution must be achieved under the roof of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey. It was noted that the mistakes made in previous processes must not be repeated, and the importance of a democratic and participatory approach was highlighted.
''THEY SHOULD NOT ENGAGE IN POLITICS THROUGH CODES''
Speaking to ANKA, party officials stated that it is important to establish a commission for the resolution of the Kurdish issue and to maintain inter-party dialogue. Furthermore, they reacted to the messages regarding the process from MHP leader Devlet Bahçeli, saying, "We are not obligated to decipher Bahçeli's codes. They should not engage in politics through codes."
WHAT WILL BE THE STANCE ON CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT?
At the CHP MYK meeting, it was emphasized that the party will absolutely not take part in the constitutional amendment process. CHP officials stated that a new constitutional debate cannot be conducted with a governing mentality that does not comply with the current Constitution.
On the other hand, it was pointed out during the meeting that the AKP consistently ranks second in the polls. CHP figures stated that the ruling party is losing power in public opinion research and that the demand for change in society is strengthening.
