Who is Mike Waltz, the person sought for Donald Trump's National Security Advisor position?
Who is Mike Waltz, one of the names Donald Trump is considering appointing to the position of National Security Advisor?
The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) has put forward a striking claim regarding the national security advisor position, one of the most critical roles in the White House. According to the report, Trump plans to appoint Mike Waltz, a former "Green Beret" who served in Afghanistan and is a representative from Florida, as the national security advisor in his new cabinet.
WHO IS MIKE WALTZ?
Mike Waltz, who has been elected to the House of Representatives from the Republican Party for the last three terms and is known particularly for his "hawkish" rhetoric regarding China, would become a significant figure in many foreign policy issues—primarily the Russia-Ukraine war, US-China competition, and crises in the Middle East—should he take office in the new cabinet.
Waltz, who has served on the Armed Services, Foreign Affairs, and Intelligence committees in the House of Representatives, worked as an advisor to former defense secretaries such as Donald Rumsfeld and Robert Gates. He also worked at the White House during Dick Cheney's vice presidency.
Waltz had argued that the US should boycott the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, citing the Beijing administration's oppression of Uyghur Turks in Xinjiang as the reason for this decision.
