As the local elections approach, the possibility of cooperation between the CHP and the İYİ Party has been completely eliminated.

The İYİ Party, which discussed the CHP's cooperation proposal at its General Administrative Board (GİK), decided to enter the elections 'free and independent'.

According to the report by Ceren Bayar from Gazete Duvar, it was still difficult to predict the outcome hours before the meeting of the General Administrative Board, the party's highest decision-making body that would make the final call. Opening the meeting, Akşener said, "The CHP has a sincere proposal for a basis of cooperation; they asked if a 'basis for cooperation could be formed.' We told them we would ask the GİK."

Akşener, who had clearly expressed her vote in favor of the İYİ Party 'entering the elections as free and independent' before the previous GİK meeting, did not say anything about the color of her vote this time and stated, "Never make your decision through me, do not base your evaluation on me. Those who argued that the answer to the proposal should be 'no' stated, "We already have a decision that has been made and has solid justifications. GİK members who argued that rejecting the cooperation would mean knowingly letting the ruling party win and would cause Turkey to lose, stated that a dialogue should be established. The GİK members who advocated the opposing view stated that the ruling party had already won in the general elections and that the local elections were a chance for the İYİ Party.

Names such as Oktay Vural, Şükrü Kuleyin, Rıdvan Uz, Naci Cinisli, Burak Akburak, Tolga Akalın, Metin Ergün, and Buğra Kavuncu were among the members who expressed that the free and independent strategy should be upheld.

According to party officials, the 4-hour GİK meeting passed like a brainstorming session, with members holding different views trying to convince each other with their own arguments.

SECRET BALLOT HELD: 35 NO VOTES, 14 YES VOTES

After everyone expressed their opinions, the voting was conducted in an unconventional manner: by secret ballot. After the vote, in which 35 GİK members voted 'no' to cooperation with the CHP and 14 GİK members voted 'yes', Meral Akşener expressed her thanks and simply said, "May it be auspicious."

THE NUMBER OF THOSE SAYING COOPERATION SHOULD BE MADE INCREASED

The number of members who said 'cooperation should be made' increased from 4 to 14 compared to the previous GİK meeting. Following the GİK meeting, Party Spokesperson Kürşad Zorlu appeared before the cameras and said, "As the İYİ Party, we will go to the 2024 elections as free and independent, that is, as our Chairperson expressed, on our own," which was met with applause by party members. 21 MORE CANDIDATES TO BE ANNOUNCED ON WEDNESDAY

The İYİ Party has determined 69 candidates so far and shared their names with the public. It was stated that 21 more candidates, one of whom is for a province, will be announced at the party's group meeting on Wednesday.
