Will the CHP Convention Case and the Istanbul Congress affect each other?

The next hearing of the lawsuit filed regarding the 38th Ordinary Convention, where CHP Leader Özgür Özel was elected chairman for the first time, will be held on September 15. A request for absolute nullity had been made in the case. If this decision is issued, the CHP's convention election will be completely disregarded, and former CHP Leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu will become chairman again. The Ankara 42nd Civil Court of First Instance, which is hearing the convention case, also requested in a letter sent to the Istanbul 45th Civil Court of First Instance that the file regarding the cancellation of the CHP Istanbul Provincial Congress be sent to them.

BOTH FILES HAVE REACHED THE COURT HEARING THE CONVENTION CASE

According to the report by Ceylan Sever from Habertürk, the file has reached the Ankara 42nd Civil Court of First Instance. The Istanbul 45th Civil Court of First Instance had dismissed the CHP Istanbul Provincial Administration and appointed a trustee in their place. The Ankara 42nd Civil Court of First Instance had also requested that the file belonging to the criminal case opened regarding the same congress be delivered to them. The Istanbul 72nd Criminal Court of First Instance has also delivered the files to the Ankara 42nd Civil Court of First Instance.

Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç, in his appearance on TRT Haber yesterday, claimed that the congress case in Istanbul would affect the convention case in Ankara: "There is an allegation that delegates were influenced by material gain at the convention. There is an injunction issued by the court on the grounds that there is a requirement for proof. There are also ongoing cases in Istanbul and Ankara. Both cases are at a level that will affect each other." CHP Spokesperson Deniz Yücel reacted harshly to Tunç's statements that the decision given regarding the CHP Istanbul Provincial Administration could affect the convention case. Stating that "He announced the Palace's instruction to the judiciary on TRT," Yücel stated that the Minister of Justice did not act in accordance with procedure and should resign from his post.
