MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli’s call regarding PKK leader Öcalan, followed by the authorization for DEM Party Şanlıurfa MP Ömer Öcalan to visit İmralı, has led the party to take action to determine its new roadmap.

The DEM Party leadership has decided to ensure broad participation in the reception to be hosted by the Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM), Numan Kurtulmuş, on the occasion of the October 29 Republic Day, in order to formulate the strategy to be followed in the coming period. The party also plans to establish dialogue with the leaders of ruling and opposition parties, primarily the AKP and MHP.

IS ÖCALAN'S MESSAGE A RESPONSE TO BAHÇELİ?

According to the report by Ayşe Sayın from BBC Turkish, the DEM Party considers the message delivered by Abdullah Öcalan through his nephew Ömer Öcalan as a response to Bahçeli. The party leadership draws attention to the importance of the message: "If conditions are met, we have the power to move this process from a ground of conflict and violence to a ground of legal and political party politics."

WILL ATTEND THE OCTOBER 29 RECEPTION

As a result of the evaluations made by the party leadership, a decision was taken to participate extensively in the reception that Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş will host for political party representatives on October 29. Many figures, including Deputy Parliament Speaker Sırrı Süreyya Önder, Administrative Chief of the Assembly Salihe Aydeniz, and Group Deputy Chairs Gülistan Kılıç Koçyiğit and Sezai Temelli, will attend this invitation.

MEETINGS WILL BE HELD WITH PARTY ORGANIZATIONS

The DEM Party leadership plans to hold meetings with provincial and district organizations to evaluate the new roadmap, receive suggestions, and inform them about the process.

Party sources stated that within this scope, they will meet with 81 provincial and district administrators in 8 regions. It was decided to make calls for the meetings with Öcalan to be made continuous and for lawyer visits to be made possible.

APPOINTMENTS WILL BE REQUESTED FROM ERDOĞAN AND BAHÇELİ

The DEM Party has put the process of initiating dialogue with political parties on its agenda for the new term. In this context, requesting appointments from the leaders of ruling and opposition parties, including President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli, is being evaluated. However, party officials state that they are waiting for the statement Erdoğan will make regarding Bahçeli's call.

'APPROACHES THAT WOULD SABOTAGE THE PROCESS MUST BE AVOIDED'

The party leadership describes Bahçeli's call as an important step and emphasizes that approaches that would “sabotage” this process must be avoided. Party sources state that they are ready to do their part to open channels of dialogue and draw attention to the importance of meetings at the leadership level.

DEM Party sources also express that Bahçeli's emphasis on the “right to hope” is important. Party officials, who draw attention with their statements that "Even if it follows the condition of laying down arms and dissolving the organization, the right to hope is a humanitarian right, a legal right," state that the isolation of Öcalan must be lifted and a ground for negotiation must be established.

TUSAŞ ATTACK

DEM Party sources hope that the attack on TUSAŞ will not negatively affect the process. The party leadership emphasizes the importance of maintaining a determined stance on the path to a solution, stating, "We have seen in global examples that such negative developments can occur in all countries where there is conflict resolution." Stating that they will not allow the attacks to disrupt the solution process, the party declares that they are persistent in expanding the peace process.

WHAT DID BAHÇELİ SAY?

Bahçeli, who made statements at his party's group meeting last week, stated that Öcalan should speak in the TBMM and said the following:

"If the isolation of the terrorist leader is lifted, let him come and speak at the DEM Party group meeting in the TBMM. Let him declare that terrorism has completely ended and the organization has been dissolved. If he shows this fortitude and determination, let the path be wide open for a legal regulation regarding the use of the right to hope and for him to benefit from it. Let the address extend from İmralı to DEM, not Kandil or Edirne, and let this heavy and historical terror problem be completely removed from the country's agenda. I challenge you, we are ready for this."

SUPPORT CAME FROM THE DEM PARTY

The response to Bahçeli's call from the DEM Party did not take long. DEM Party Co-Chair Tülay Hatimoğulları responded to Bahçeli's call and said, "The interlocutor of the Kurdish issue in Turkey is Abdullah Öcalan. If there is to be a beginning, the isolation must be lifted immediately. We are ready to take initiative for an honorable peace. We have been struggling for years for the isolation on Öcalan to be lifted. It must definitely be lifted. We say let him come physically and speak. Let us all see what he says. Steps must be taken urgently on this matter without wasting time. I underline once again that we are ready to do whatever is necessary as the DEM Party on this matter."
