Workers' Party of Turkey heads to Çağlayan Courthouse for Can Atalay
The Workers' Party of Turkey (TIP) will go to the Çağlayan Courthouse today for Can Atalay, who has not been released despite the Constitutional Court's (AYM) ruling on rights violations and release.
The reasoned decision of the Constitutional Court (AYM) regarding TIP Hatay MP Can Atalay, who is imprisoned in the Gezi Park case, has been published in the Official Gazette. The AYM, which ruled for a rights violation and release, also ordered the payment of 50,000 TL in non-pecuniary damages.
MOVE FROM TIP FOR CAN ATALAY
The Workers' Party of Turkey has taken action for Can Atalay, who has still not been released despite the AYM ruling. In a statement made by the party, it was announced that Chairman Erkan Baş, along with MPs and the Istanbul provincial organization, will be at the Çağlayan Courthouse today at 13:00.
The following statement was included in the announcement made by TIP:
"Dear members of the press;
Against the fact that TIP MP Can Atalay has still not been released despite the AYM's rights violation and release ruling, TIP Chairman Erkan Baş, MPs, and the provincial organization will be at the Çağlayan Courthouse as of 13:00 today.
We submit this for your information and wish you good work."
THE LETTER SENT BY THE AYM WAS ENTERED INTO THE SYSTEM HOURS LATER
A letter was sent from the Constitutional Court to the Istanbul 13th High Criminal Court regarding Can Atalay. In the letter sent by the AYM, the 13th High Criminal Court was requested to report its decision and to provide the case number regarding the retrial.
In its reasoned decision, the AYM had stated that Atalay should be released and retried. With this letter, the AYM once again warned the local court to issue a release decision as soon as possible.
According to the report by Fırat Fıstık from Halk TV, it emerged that although the sent letter reached the court at noon, it was entered into the system hours later.
