Yavaş visits İmamoğlu in Silivri: A striking response to the question 'Will the operations spread to Ankara?'

Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mansur Yavaş has completed the visit he was unable to carry out last week after being denied permission. Yavaş visited presidential candidate and Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, who is being held at Silivri Prison.

Speaking after the visit, Yavaş drew attention to İmamoğlu's stance and attitude. "I saw the self-confidence of an innocent person," Yavaş said.

"HE WANTS THE TRIAL TO BE BROADCAST LIVE ON TRT"

Yavaş also shared İmamoğlu's demands regarding the trial with the public. "Ekrem Bey wants his trial to be broadcast live on TRT. This is something related to the self-confidence he feels," Yavaş said, while also expressing his criticisms of the judicial process.

"There is a strong conviction in the public that these trials are political. The rate is over 60-65 percent. Such political trials are held from time to time in Turkey, but we end up facing the exact opposite decisions. The rule of law is necessary for everyone."

"THEY ARE DISCREDITING SUCCESSFUL MUNICIPALITIES WITH POLITICAL TRIALS"

Stating that there are irregularities in the judicial process, Yavaş made the following remarks:

"Law No. 4483 on the Trial of Civil Servants and Other Public Officials is not being followed. The investigation of mayors should be conducted according to the decisions of the Council of State. But these are being ignored in this process. By discrediting CHP municipalities, they want to block the path to a change in government. That is the essence of the matter."

HE ALSO TOUCHED UPON ÜMİT ÖZDAĞ

Reminding that Victory Party leader Ümit Özdağ is also expecting to be released on June 11, Yavaş said:

"According to the Execution Law, even those who receive heavy sentences serve 1-2 months and get out. But young people and mayors are inside for crimes that do not carry a prison sentence. Ümit Özdağ is in the same situation. We believe he will not be convicted. But even if he were convicted, he has already served more than enough time."

"Where there is no justice, there is no bread. The Turkish people are suffering the consequences of this. The rule of law is necessary for everyone."

RESPONSE TO THE QUESTION "WILL IT SPREAD TO ANKARA?"

When asked whether a similar operation might spread to Ankara after the 5th wave of investigations into the IMM extended to CHP municipalities in Adana, Yavaş replied:

"Where there is lawlessness, anything is possible. It is possible for everyone to slander you. But we trust ourselves. We have no unlawful business. If there is a mistake in our municipality, we report it ourselves. But we cannot do anything against slander. The judiciary is what will protect us."
