Özgür Özel calls on ministry regarding Turkish journalists detained in Israel

In the city of Tel Aviv, Israel, CNN TÜRK reporter Emrah Çakmak and cameraman Halil Kahraman were obstructed and held in detention by Israeli security forces during a live broadcast. According to information obtained, the two journalists' phones were confiscated, while it was learned that they are in good health.

Following the incident, CHP Chairman Özgür Özel emphasized in a statement made via social media that this treatment of journalists is unacceptable.

Özel stated the following in his announcement:

"The detention of our journalists working in Israel, CNN Türk reporter Emrah Çakmak and cameraman Halil Kahraman, is unacceptable.

No state can restrict the right to receive news through arbitrary measures.

We strongly condemn this unlawful practice against our press members and expect it to be rectified immediately.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs must take the necessary initiatives and measures to improve the working conditions of all Turkish journalists operating in the region, ensure their safety, and prevent them from encountering similar treatment again."
