Verdict reached in Merdan Yanardağ's trial
TELE1 Editor-in-Chief Merdan Yanardağ has been acquitted in the trial concerning an article he wrote for BirGün.
A lawsuit was filed against TELE1 Editor-in-Chief Merdan Yanardağ based on his article titled "The Mafia-ization of the Order," which was published in BirGün newspaper on May 23, 2021. Yanardağ appeared before the Istanbul 2nd Criminal Court of First Instance on charges of "insulting the Turkish nation, the Republic of Turkey, and the state's institutions and bodies."
In the hearing held today, the court concluded that the elements of the alleged crime were not met and ruled for Yanardağ's acquittal.
