Fake medical report scandal in Beylikdüzü

A new fraud case has come to light in Istanbul. A foreign national identified as O.S. applied for a residence permit at the Istanbul Provincial Directorate of Migration Management.

According to a report by Can Uğur from Cumhuriyet, the medical report included among the application documents, which was allegedly obtained from Beylikdüzü State Hospital, stated that the individual could not travel for one year. However, the doctor's identification number and medical specialty mentioned in the report were inconsistent. This caught the attention of health personnel and raised suspicions of forgery.

REACTION FROM THE MIGRATION DIRECTORATE AND THE HOSPITAL

The Istanbul Provincial Directorate of Migration Management sent an official letter to Beylikdüzü State Hospital on July 30 to verify the authenticity of the report.

Upon investigation, the hospital administration determined that the report was not registered in their systems, the doctor's specialty was incorrectly stated, and the identification information did not reflect the truth. Following this, the hospital filed a criminal complaint with the Büyükçekmece Chief Public Prosecutor's Office on August 4.

METHODS OF FORGING DOCUMENTS

This document, which was prepared using the information of a real health institution and doctor, was made to appear official through content alteration. However, the incident was uncovered thanks to obvious inconsistencies on the document.

Authorities pointed out that similar content manipulations could also be occurring in other public institutions.

CHP Istanbul Deputy Suat Özçağdaş stated in his remarks on the matter that Turkey's digital security is under threat. Özçağdaş said, "The fake report case at Beylikdüzü State Hospital is not an isolated incident. Hospital officials must share with the public how many other such incidents have occurred at the same hospital." He further emphasized that officials who fail to prevent digital security vulnerabilities should resign.
