New controversy over the allocation of Istanbul's resources: Municipal vehicle provided for private use for 660 days

Deniz Yavuzyılmaz, Deputy Chairman of the Republican People's Party (CHP) responsible for Public Audit and Anti-Corruption, made a striking post on social media. In his statement, he brought up a significant allegation regarding the arbitrary use of public resources belonging to Istanbul.

The shared document includes an official paper titled "Vehicle Delivery Record" issued by the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Support Services Directorate Central Garage Command. According to this document, it was noted that a 2017 model car with the license plate 34 NZ 8512 was assigned to "Presidential Family Members."

The highlights of Yavuzyılmaz's statement were as follows: "The vehicle reign at IMM! During the AKP era at the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, we determined that a vehicle with the license plate 34 NZ 8512 was arbitrarily allocated to Presidential Family Members for 660 days using resources belonging to the people of Istanbul. The allocation period of the vehicle is almost 2 years! Exactly 660 days! Furthermore, the rental and fuel expenses of the vehicle were also paid from the IMM treasury. This is called living a life of luxury with IMM's public resources!"

According to the statement, it was not limited to just the allocation of the vehicle; it was also stated that the rental and fuel expenses of the vehicle in question were covered by the municipal budget. This practice led to comments that it caused public loss and pointed to the misuse of city resources.

Previously, Yavuzyılmaz had also announced a document showing that another vehicle belonging to the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality during the AKP era was provided for the service of "Presidential Family Members" for 200 days during a different period.

While the sharing of the documents sparked new debates regarding transparency and resource management in local governments, it is observed that the public continues to follow the issue closely.
