Police Profession Law overhauled: Working hours, leave, and rights are changing

The Ministry of Interior has reached the final stage in its legislative work regarding the police force. With the new "Police Profession Law" draft, prepared because the current legislation is insufficient to meet modern needs, comprehensive changes are planned in the organization's operations.

WORKING CONDITIONS ARE BEING RESHAPED

According to a report by the pro-government newspaper Türkiye Gazetesi, the draft text envisions the creation of a new system to address the intense pace of work and irregular working hours. It aims to establish specific rules for overtime practices, make leave processes more planned, and reorganize long working hours. Improvements to personnel's personal rights are also on the agenda.

SOCIAL RIGHTS AND SUPPORT AREAS ARE EXPANDING

Within the scope of the regulation, it is planned to strengthen social security, housing opportunities, and health and psychological support services. These steps aim to make the personnel's working conditions more sustainable.

AUTHORITY FRAMEWORK BECOMING CLEARER

The draft also includes more clearly defined duty and authority descriptions. It aims to clarify the limits of authority in order to reduce differences in field implementation. It is also expected that the draft will contain regulations regarding union rights and independent oversight mechanisms.
