5 Bitcoin stolen
It has been revealed that cyber attackers stole 5 Bitcoin. The attacks were most frequently seen in Brazil, Turkey, and Russia.
The Kaspersky Global Research and Analysis Team (GReAT) has discovered a new series of cyberattacks called GitVenom. This attack involves hundreds of open-source code repositories containing malicious software that specifically targets gamers and crypto investors.
The attackers seized personal and financial data through fake projects such as Instagram automation tools, Bitcoin wallet management bots, and Valorant crack software. The stolen information includes passwords, bank accounts, and crypto wallet addresses. Additionally, a tool was used to redirect funds to the attackers by modifying copied wallet addresses. Through this method, approximately 5 Bitcoin (485 thousand dollars) were stolen.
The highest number of cases were seen in Brazil, Turkey, and Russia. Cybercriminals integrated malicious code into projects written in Python, JavaScript, C, C++, and C#, and these codes transferred data to the attackers when executed.
Kaspersky researcher Georgy Kucherin emphasized that developers should conduct careful analysis before running third-party code. It is of great importance to obtain open-source software from reliable sources and to be cautious against unknown projects.
