6G preparations gain momentum: Before even transitioning to 5G...
Although 5G technology has not yet become fully widespread globally, leading technology companies and standards organizations are accelerating their efforts toward 6G.
While 5G connectivity, which has become a symbol of digital transformation, has begun to be used in many countries, the technology industry has turned its focus to 6G networks. Within the framework of the roadmap prepared for 2030, it is stated that the new generation of mobile internet will not only provide speed advantages but will also offer users a completely different experience by increasing the sensing capability of networks with artificial intelligence support.
In particular, near-zero latency and millimeter-level precision will open the door to revolutionary innovations in healthcare, automotive, and urban planning applications. With 6G, remote surgeries, real-time holographic communication, and digital twin applications will become more accessible.
THE US AND EUROPE LED IN 5G, TURKEY AWAITS 2026
While the United States transmitted its first commercial 5G signals in 2018, countries in Europe such as Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and Germany introduced this technology to their citizens starting in 2019. By the end of 2020, the 5G network became widely available across the European continent.
Turkey, meanwhile, is continuing its final preparations to complete its 5G transition. According to the plans, the 5G infrastructure is targeted to officially begin service on April 1, 2026.
TOWARD 2030
It is predicted that by 2030 in the global mobile ecosystem, 6G technology will grant devices the ability to perceive their surroundings like a human sensory organ. Thus, not only data exchange but also real-time environmental analysis and much higher-resolution applications will enter our lives. With the developments that 6G will bring, current applications will be replaced by smarter, AI-based, and interactive solutions; the boundaries between the digital and physical worlds will blur.
This wave of innovation in the mobile communications sector will pave the way for radical changes in numerous fields, from daily life to industry, while creating innovative business models.
