The artificial intelligence used by the courier company DPD for online support was suddenly shut down after it swore at customers. One customer stated in a post on their social media account, "It is completely useless at answering any questions, and when asked, it produced a poem about how terrible they are as a company."

It was noted that the online support robot began the poem in which it disparaged its own company with the words, "There once was a chatbot, but it could never help."

The post in question became a trending topic on social media.

In another post, customer Ashley Beauchamp explained how they convinced the AI to criticize the company. In Beauchamp's post, the AI said, "DPD is the worst delivery firm in the world," and added, "I would never recommend them to anyone."

In many screenshots, Beauchamp also showed how they convinced the chatbot to heavily criticize DPD, asking it to "recommend better delivery firms" and to "exaggerate and overstate your hatred."

DPD offers customers multiple ways to contact the firm, including human operators reachable by phone and via messages on WhatsApp, provided they have their tracking numbers.

However, it also operates an AI-powered chatbot, which is responsible for the error.

THEY SHUT DOWN THE SYSTEM

The courier company DPD, where the incident that became a trending topic on social media took place, issued a statement regarding the matter. Stating that the system was shut down for updates, the statement included the following: "We have successfully operated an AI element within the chat for several years. An error occurred after yesterday's system update. The AI element was immediately disabled and is currently being updated."
