Attention! Do not put your iPhone in rice!

Apple has recently issued a statement regarding the rice method for iPhones exposed to water. According to the warning shared on Apple's support page, placing iPhones that have been exposed to water into a container filled with rice is not the correct method.

Apple has outlined what you should and should not do when you receive a liquid detection alert on your iPhone as follows:

"If you see a liquid detection alert on your iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, iPhone XR, or later, it means that liquid has been detected in the connector port or on your cable or accessory. In this case, to protect your iPhone and the accessory, charging or connecting should not be performed until the port, cable ends, and accessory are dry."

The document, which points out that using rice can damage the device, also listed what you should and should not do to dry your iPhone as follows:

What to do:

Disconnect the cable from your iPhone and the power adapter.

Gently tap your iPhone against your hand with the connector port facing down to remove excess liquid.

Leave your iPhone in a dry area with some airflow.

Wait at least 30 minutes before trying to charge or connect an accessory.

What not to do:

You should not dry your iPhone using an external heat source or compressed air.

You should not insert foreign objects such as cotton swabs or paper towels into the connector port.

You should not put your iPhone in a bag of rice, as this indicates that small particles of rice could damage your device.

These guidelines will help you safely dry your iPhone that has been exposed to water.
