An important step has been taken by the Personal Data Protection Board (KVKK) to implement protective measures against the dangers children may face in the digital world. In a statement made by the KVKK, it was emphasized that ensuring the privacy of personal information of social media users, especially children, is a priority.

In this context, it was reported that an official investigation process has been initiated regarding how children's personal data on social media is processed and what security measures are taken by the platforms.

INVESTIGATION LAUNCHED

Authorities stated that this investigation, conducted with the "best interests" of children in mind, covers leading platforms such as TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, X, and Discord. The KVKK announced, "It has been decided by the Personal Data Protection Board to initiate an ex officio investigation into the TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, X, and Discord platforms regarding how children's personal data is processed on social media platforms and what measures are taken, in order to ensure that children are protected from potential risks they may encounter in the digital environment."

It was stated that the investigation aims to evaluate the approach of social media companies toward privacy measures for children and to introduce new regulations if necessary. It was noted that during this process, the data protection policies of the platforms will be analyzed in detail.
