BTK pushes the button: VPNs to be brought under licensing
As access to digital content has returned to the agenda following attacks targeting schools, it has been reported that the BTK is preparing to license VPNs and implement a special "child line" for users under 18.
Following attacks targeting schools in Şanlıurfa and Kahramanmaraş, access to violent content in the digital environment has become a subject of debate once again, and it has been reported that the Information and Communication Technologies Authority (BTK) is working on new regulations in this area.
According to a report in the Sabah newspaper, as part of the work carried out by the BTK, a step is planned to be taken regarding VPN services in the first phase. In this direction, a regulation is being prepared to bring VPN services under the scope of licensing and to supervise them within the framework of specific rules.
It is stated that the regulation in question aims to prevent children from reaching content that is restricted to them through indirect means.
"CHILD LINE" REGULATION PLANNED
Another topic the BTK is working on concerns GSM subscriptions. With the regulation in the preparation stage, it is envisaged that the lines of users under 18 will be defined as a "child line".
With this application, it is aimed to evaluate mobile lines belonging to children in a separate category, strengthen parental control, and make access to digital content more controlled.
