Countdown begins for 5G technology in Turkey

Minister Uraloğlu announced that the efforts to expand 5G technology nationwide have reached their final stage. Reminding that the official process for the 5G tender began with a Presidential Decree published in the Official Gazette on August 16, Uraloğlu stated that Turkey has made significant progress in mobile communication technologies from 2G to 5G.

Emphasizing that 5G will offer internet speeds 10 to 100 times faster than current 4.5G networks, Uraloğlu said, "A total of 400 MHz of frequency in the 700 MHz and 3.5 GHz bands will be opened for use by our mobile network operators. With this decision, the minimum values for the upcoming tender have been determined, and separate minimum values have been set for each frequency band."

Uraloğlu stated that the new standards are being built upon the existing infrastructure and shared the following information:

"Our operators' existing authorizations have also been included in the scope of this tender. With the determination of the minimum values, we will inform the public about the date and key elements of the tender shortly. We have already made 5G available for our citizens to experience at Istanbul Airport and at the stadiums of some football clubs. Furthermore, trial studies are ongoing with closed user groups in nearly 40 locations. Our work to provide 5G service across the country has reached the final stage."
