Era of SIM cards specifically for children begins: Parental control and access restrictions are coming
New measures are on the way with the goal of making mobile devices safer for children. A "line" designation specific to children and stricter identity verification systems are being introduced.
Following recent attacks at schools in Kahramanmaraş and Şanlıurfa, the impact of digital environments on children has once again become a subject of public debate. Following these developments, action has been taken to implement significant steps regarding children's internet and mobile game usage across Turkey.
According to a report by Sabah, it was stated that a comprehensive regulatory package is being worked on to prevent violent content in the digital environment from reaching children. In particular, the new regulations prepared by the Information and Communication Technologies Authority (BTK) aim to reduce the dangers children may encounter in the digital world.
Within the scope of the new steps expected to be enacted, it is planned to restrict violent and risky content on mobile devices for users under the age of 18.
CHILD-SPECIFIC LINES AND PARENTAL CONTROL
One of the innovations on the agenda is the "child line" application. In this system, it is envisioned that phone lines opened in the name of children will be controllable by parents. The "phone open only for voice calls, with internet access disabled" model is also expected to become widespread within this framework.
Thanks to this new application, it is aimed to prevent young people from accessing violent mobile games and harmful digital trends in an uncontrolled manner. It is stated that the legislative proposal to maximize the state's supervision in this area will be submitted to the Grand National Assembly of Turkey in the near future.
Measures against attempts to bypass existing restrictions via VPN services have also been included in the package. Strengthening existing systems to prevent digital identity theft and the misuse of personal data has been placed on the agenda.
It was stated that biometric security measures, such as identity verification and facial recognition similar to those in the banking sector, will be implemented for users obtaining mobile lines from GSM operators.
In this context, it was noted that the legal infrastructure will be expanded so that children can navigate the digital environment more safely and families can more closely monitor their children's technological habits.
The new regulations aim to respond to societal expectations at a time when the age at which children are introduced to the internet and mobile devices is gradually decreasing.
