Facebook began depositing money into users' accounts today

A new development has occurred in the compensation process that closely concerns Facebook users in the United States. Facebook, one of the world's largest social media platforms, officially began the second round of the payment wave initiated last year following the major 2016 data scandal today.

During the 2016 US presidential election, it was revealed that a consulting firm named Cambridge Analytica had collected the personal data of millions of users without authorization and used this data for political purposes. While the incident caused a major stir, a class-action lawsuit was filed against Meta (Facebook), and the company agreed to pay a record-breaking 725 million dollars in 2023 as part of a settlement.

FORGOTTEN FUNDS ARE BEING REDISTRIBUTED

In the first round of payments held last year, some of the eligible recipients did not use the checks sent to them within the specified time or did not complete their digital transfers. As a result, a balance of approximately 100 million dollars remained unused in the funds.

The federal court in California ruled that these forgotten shares should be redistributed among the eligible users. According to the statement, after deducting administrative costs, the remaining approximately 95 million dollars will be distributed to approximately 15 million users who applied in the first round and received their payments on time.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE FOR PAYMENT AND HOW MUCH WILL THEY RECEIVE?

It is not possible to submit new applications for the payment wave that began today. Individuals who had an active Facebook account in the United States between May 24, 2007, and December 22, 2022, and who completed their application for the first payment wave by August 25, 2023, were included. Furthermore, those who successfully collected the approximately 30-dollar payment sent in the first round are eligible to receive the amount being transferred to accounts this time as well. Users who were late or did not cash their previous checks cannot benefit from this new payment.

In the second round of payments, the amount per user is lower compared to the first. While an average of 32.45 dollars was paid in the first round, this time an amount between 4.67 and 7.32 dollars, varying by individual, will be deposited into the accounts of eligible recipients. The net amount will be calculated using a special formula determined by the total active time the user spent on Facebook.

Payments are being transferred automatically through channels such as Zelle, PayPal, Venmo, direct bank transfer, or prepaid bank cards reported during the application process. Users do not need to create a new request. Additionally, it is reported that a notification email is sent 3-4 days before the transaction takes place.

Facebook users will be able to easily find out whether they have received this payment they are entitled to by checking their digital accounts throughout the day.
