Google updates its account login page
Google is rolling out a new login page with a slightly cleaner design. The changes are minor and do not affect functionality, but Google had been using the previous version of this page, which users encounter frequently, since the time it changed its logo.
The update makes the login and sign-up page more consistent with the company's Material Design philosophy, which was introduced in 2014. Accordingly, it is now left-aligned (rather than centered) and has an orientation that automatically adapts to the size of your screen—meaning it appears wider on computer screens and narrower on smartphones.
The company stated that it will appear on all device types, though it may not be visible in older browsers.
IT HAD MOVED PASSWORD ENTRY TO A SECOND PAGE
The biggest previous change Google made to its login page was moving password entry to a second page in 2015. This update was made in preparation for "future authentication solutions that complement passwords" and to reduce confusion among people with multiple Google accounts, the company stated at the time.
Google emphasized that the change will be permanent, similar to the transition to Gmail's integrated view. The rollout will be quite gradual, beginning on February 21 and is scheduled to be completed on March 4, 2024.
