Instagram expands restrictions against those accounts

Social media platform Instagram is making a significant change targeting accounts known as "aggregator accounts," which primarily repost content from others. Under the new regulation, only original content will be featured in Instagram's recommendation system; posts shared without authorization will be completely removed from the Explore and recommendations sections.

This protection system, which was previously applied only to Reels videos, will now also cover photos and carousel posts. This will ensure that the rights of users who produce original content are more strongly protected.

Accounts that share photos, videos, or carousel posts belonging to others without permission will no longer appear in recommendation lists or the Explore feed under this policy. However, followers will still be able to see such posts in their own main feeds. The accounts will not be banned entirely; the restriction will be applied solely by excluding them from recommendations.

Instagram has also clearly defined its "original" content criteria. Only content produced by the user themselves or content that reflects their own perspective will fall under this scope. Photos you have taken yourself, videos you have prepared, or visuals you have designed will be directly considered original.

The transformation of third-party content is not entirely prohibited. Adding an original commentary, humorous element, or cultural reference to content—especially for accounts that produce internet humor—will lead to the post being considered original. Thus, memes and similar posts that contain a creative touch will continue to appear in the recommendation system.

With these changes, Instagram's goal is to both elevate the content quality of the platform and ensure that the efforts of original content owners receive the value they deserve.
