Instagram's new feature sparks a crisis! Be sure to check your settings
While Instagram's "Instagram Map" feature allows users to share their locations, claims of automatic sharing have caused concern among users.
With its latest update, Instagram has introduced a new feature called "Instagram Map." This feature allows users to share their current locations and discover content based on those locations. However, claims that this feature is enabled automatically have spread rapidly on social media, causing unease among users.
Instagram Head Adam Mosseri stated in a post on the Threads platform that these claims were a misunderstanding. Mosseri said, "Users think their locations are being shared automatically, but that is not true. Location information sharing does not occur without the user's explicit consent, and the system requests confirmation twice before sharing," he said.
Users can turn off location sharing by going to the "Map" tab in the DM section and setting their preferences under the "Who can see my location?" section. Additionally, they can disable the "Location Sharing" option from their profile settings. However, location tags added to content may continue to appear on the map.
Instagram Map stands out as an innovative feature that makes it easier for users to discover location-based content. However, users' privacy concerns cannot be ignored. Although Instagram offers a double-confirmation system to prevent unauthorized sharing, it is recommended that users regularly check their personal settings as the safest way to prevent unwanted sharing.
