Intel unveils new AI chip: 'High-performance and efficient'

At the "Intel Vision 2024" conference, Intel unveiled its new chip, targeting Nvidia's dominance in the field of semiconductors that power artificial intelligence.

The company's statement provided information about the "Gaudi 3" chip, which was introduced to offer performance, openness, and choice for enterprise generative AI.

Pointing out that businesses are looking for ways to scale generative AI from the pilot phase to production, the statement emphasized the need for ready-made solutions built on high-performance, cost-effective, and energy-efficient processors like Gaudi 3, which also meet requirements for complexity, fragmentation, data security, and compliance.

The statement claimed that Gaudi 3 is projected to train certain large language models on average 50 percent faster, provide 50 percent better inference, and offer 40 percent better power efficiency compared to the Nvidia H100, noting that it will be available to original equipment manufacturers, including Dell Technologies, HPE, Lenovo, and Supermicro, in the second quarter of 2024.

Google also introduced its first custom Arm-based processor, "Google Axion," and announced that the chip, which offers performance and energy efficiency, will be available to Google Cloud customers later this year.

In the increasingly competitive AI chip market, Nvidia's market share is estimated to be 80 percent.
