Revolutionary development in education
Loughborough University in Leicestershire, United Kingdom, has begun projecting professors teaching at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, located nearly 5,000 kilometers away, into its own classrooms in real-time using hologram technology.
According to a report in The Guardian, professors from across the ocean will teach students; business students will learn about challenging professional cases from hologram professors.
Loughborough University Pro-Vice-Chancellor Rachel Thomson stated that projecting professors into classrooms via hologram is "much cheaper and more environmentally friendly."
Vikki Locke, Director of Undergraduate Studies at Loughborough University, said, "Students prefer having an industry guest beamed into the classroom over looking at a 2D surface." Hologram technology, which has previously been used frequently in the entertainment industry, will officially be included in Loughborough University's course schedules in 2025.
In 2014, 5 years after his death, world-famous pop star Michael Jackson performed a concert for his fans via hologram.
WHAT IS HOLOGRAM TECHNOLOGY?
Hologram technology is a technology based on the principle of creating three-dimensional (3D) images using light waves.
The basic principles of hologram technology are as follows: Light Wave Recording: Holograms are created by recording and reproducing light waves. A laser beam is split into two parts. One beam reaches the holographic film directly, while the other beam first hits the object and is then reflected onto the film.
Interference and Diffraction: The light reflected from the object combines with the light reaching the film directly to create an interference pattern. This pattern contains the light wave information of the object and is recorded on the holographic film.
Visual Viewing: When the holographic film is illuminated in a specific way, the recorded light waves create a three-dimensional image of the object. This image looks like a copy of the real object, and the viewer can walk around it to see the object from different angles. Color and Resolution: Advanced hologram technologies can produce high-resolution and color images.
WHERE IS HOLOGRAM TECHNOLOGY USED?
Hologram technology is used in many different fields:
Entertainment and Art: Holograms of past or deceased artists can be used in concerts and theatrical performances. Education and Training: Holograms can be used to visualize complex concepts in medicine and science.
Advertising and Marketing: Striking holograms can be used in product promotions and advertising campaigns. Security: Holographic labels can be used for anti-counterfeiting and product verification purposes.
Telecommunications: In the future, holographic video conferences could provide realistic and interactive meetings. Hologram technology is developing rapidly and becoming increasingly sophisticated, which increases its potential for innovative applications in many fields.
