Tesla is hiring workers to develop its humanoid robot Optimus: 1,620 TL per hour

Electric vehicle giant Tesla is expanding the team it established to take its humanoid robot, Optimus, one step further. Last year, the company hired dozens of people to train Optimus by wearing "motion capture suits."

Tesla announced that it will be hiring for a "Data Collection Operator" position. The salary offered for the full-time job ranges from 25.25 to 48 dollars per hour. As of 16:00 on August 19, 2024, 48 dollars is equivalent to approximately 1,620 Turkish Lira. 

According to a report by Business Insider, Data Collection Operators will wear special suits and work with virtual reality headsets, working shifts of over 7 hours a day. If we calculate based on a 7-hour shift, employees accepted for this job could earn 11,340 Turkish Lira per day.

CANDIDATES MUST MEET HEIGHT REQUIREMENT

Candidates applying for this interesting role are expected to be between 170 and 180 centimeters tall. This height corresponds to the height of Optimus. Tesla CEO Elon Musk had previously announced that Optimus would be 173 centimeters tall.

Data Collection Operators will collect data, analyze it, and report on it daily. Tesla's job posting indicates that there are different shifts available, including night shifts. 

The job requires "constant hand-eye coordination, body coordination, kinesthetic awareness, and mobility such as climbing and descending stairs."

ONE DAY OFF PER WEEK, OVERTIME, FLEXIBLE WORKING CONDITIONS...

In the application information published by Tesla, while addressing potential issues that virtual reality headsets might cause, the necessity for flexible working conditions such as one day off per week and overtime when needed is mentioned.

Animesh Garg, a senior researcher at Nvidia Research and a professor of robotics at the Georgia Institute of Technology, said the following regarding the job description: "The work involves collecting data to be analyzed later and directly controlling the humanoid robot by performing tasks in a motion capture suit."

Tesla's Optimus social media account previously shared a video last year explaining what the Data Collection Operator role looks like.
