The electricity consumption of electric ovens is surprising: They consume more than many refrigerators
It has been revealed that electric ovens, which are frequently used in homes, reach record levels in energy consumption. Experts point to various energy-saving methods to both protect your budget and support the environment.
With rising energy costs, the consumption of electrical appliances used in homes is becoming a more prominent issue. In particular, threats to electrical infrastructure and general price increases require citizens to prioritize energy savings. However, recent technical analyses have revealed that electric ovens reach figures in energy usage that exceed expectations.
While the average power capacity of electric ovens varies between 2000 and 5000 Watts, refrigerators generally hover around 300 to 800 Watts. According to mathematical calculations, an active oven can consume an amount of energy equivalent to the instantaneous electricity consumption of approximately 65 refrigerators.
While refrigerators use a small amount of energy only to maintain their existing cold temperature, electric ovens maximize energy usage to reach high temperatures in a short time. In measurements based on user habits in Ukraine, the monthly consumption of an oven can vary on average between 40 and 90 kilowatt-hours.
THE IMPORTANCE OF SAVING ENERGY WHEN USING ELECTRIC OVENS
Considering the high energy expenditure, saving recommendations on both an individual and societal scale are of vital importance. Experts offer some practical suggestions to reduce your bills without giving up your oven:
- You can turn off the oven in the last 5-10 minutes of the cooking process, allowing the device to continue cooking with the heat accumulated inside.
- Avoid opening the oven door frequently. Every time you open the door, a significant portion of the heat inside is lost, and the oven consumes more energy to compensate for this missing heat.
- Using dark-colored, heavy containers with high thermal conductivity minimizes heat loss.
- By cooking multiple dishes at the same time, you can minimize the energy spent on the oven reheating each time.
Increasing energy efficiency at home not only supports individual savings but also supports the more sustainable use of energy resources on a global scale. In particular, the correct use of high-consumption devices such as electric ovens is of great importance for both the environment and the family budget.
