The end of an era: Legendary racing game says goodbye

Need for Speed, one of the most significant series in the gaming world, is leaving another era behind. Electronic Arts has announced that it will permanently shut down the online servers for Need for Speed: Rivals, which was released in 2013. This decision makes Rivals the seventh Need for Speed game to have its online support discontinued.

According to EA's statement, this shutdown decision will cover all platforms, including PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. Starting October 7, players will no longer be able to access multiplayer modes and other online services. Game pages on digital storefronts have also been updated with warnings reflecting this change.

Need for Speed: Rivals was developed in collaboration between Ghost Games (now known as EA Gothenburg) and Criterion Games. Released in 2013, the game stood out as the 20th main installment in the series for the innovations it brought to the arcade racing genre. Despite encountering some technical issues at the time of its release, Rivals received positive reviews and became one of the most acclaimed Need for Speed games of the 2010s.
