Current analyses of digital platform usage and internet habits in Turkey show that video content is by far the most prominent in the country's internet traffic. According to data shared by the Information and Communication Technologies Authority (BTK), YouTube alone accounted for 44.3 percent of internet traffic in the last quarter of 2025. During this period, Instagram also stood out as one of the platforms prominent in both instant messaging and video sharing.

YOUTUBE LEADS IN TRAFFIC, INSTAGRAM PLAYS A DUAL ROLE

While fixed internet connections stand out significantly in total internet usage, the majority of users also prefer this connection type for downloading and uploading operations. 83.5 percent of total traffic originates from fixed connections, while 16.5 percent comes from mobile connections. The share of fixed connections in file downloads reached 83.3 percent, and 86.1 percent in uploads.

THE WEIGHT OF FIXED CONNECTIONS IN INTERNET USAGE

The 'streaming media' category, which provides direct access to video content, music, and online games, leads total internet usage with a rate of 65.8 percent. YouTube is at the top of the broadcast-based media group with 57.2 percent; it is followed by Instagram with 16.8 percent, while TikTok has a share of 6.1 percent.

Instagram's rise in the instant messaging market continues. 64.1 percent of users use the Instagram application for daily communication. Facebook ranks second with 15.2 percent, while WhatsApp is in the top three with 10.9 percent. WhatsApp is the leader in voice calls; 55.9 percent of users prefer this application. Facebook, FaceTime, Snapchat, and RTP are listed as other platforms that stand out in this category.

INSTAGRAM LEADS IN MESSAGING, WHATSAPP IN CALLS

In software updates performed on mobile and fixed devices, Apple Software Update ranked first on the list with 37.8 percent of traffic. Google Play obtained a 31.3 percent share, and Windows Updates obtained 11.6 percent. These three update sources constitute the vast majority of all software traffic.

APPLE AND GOOGLE DOMINATE UPDATES

In the world of online games, desktop and console platforms continue their competition. While Steam maintains its first-place position with a 35.6 percent share in online game traffic, Playstation is preferred by players with 21.9 percent, Epic Games with 9 percent, and Xbox with 5.3 percent.

In network-based digital storage, Apple's iCloud service outperforms its competitors with a 64 percent usage rate. Google Cloud Storage (6.8 percent) and Google Photos (5.7 percent) follow iCloud.

Users' content production trends on social media have also largely shifted toward video-focused platforms. Throughout 2025, 39.7 percent of content created across all categories was produced and shared on YouTube. Instagram positioned itself in second place with 13.5 percent. It was determined that content production intensified particularly in February, March, and September.

YOUTUBE IS FAR AHEAD IN CONTENT PRODUCTION

In the 'streaming media' category, YouTube solidified its leadership with a 39.6 percent content production rate. When it comes to audiovisual content production, users turn to YouTube the most.

This picture of Turkey's digital habits reveals that content consumption and communication preferences are increasingly shifting toward video, instant messaging, and voice platforms. With developing technology and changing user expectations, it is observed that internet traffic is predominantly directed toward video viewing and fast communication applications.
