The three household appliances that consume the most energy

Among the electrical appliances used at home, three devices top the list in terms of energy consumption, forming the main burden of monthly and annual bills. Recent research reveals that, contrary to what most people assume, these devices are not necessarily the ones traditionally thought to consume the most, but rather those that run continuously.

The three household appliances that consume the most energy

For those looking to contribute to the household economy, energy saving comes to the fore. The share of white goods and small household appliances in bills varies depending on user habits and the maintenance status of the devices. Recently published data clearly shows the top three appliances that consume the most electricity at home.

At the top of this list are electric heaters. Consuming an average of 3,800 kWh of energy annually, these heaters account for a large portion of the total consumption in the home on their own. Used intensively, especially during the winter months, these devices can create significant costs in a short time.

In second place are refrigerators. These devices, which are always in operation, can account for about a quarter of the electricity bills in a home on their own. Depending on the model and usage pattern, they consume between 200 and 500 kWh of energy annually. Maintenance of the refrigerator and preventing icing inside are prominent factors in reducing consumption.

In third place are deep freezers. Thanks to their structure that constantly consumes electricity, these devices also increase the energy costs of households without them realizing it. Deep freezers consume an average of 100-500 kWh of energy annually, and every 3 millimeters of icing on the device can increase energy usage by 30 percent.

On the other hand, although small household appliances do not bring as heavy a bill burden as thought, some can create significant consumption when left on constantly. In particular, the annual consumption of internet modems, which reaches 165 kWh, brings these devices to the fore in an unexpected way.

The burden on electricity bills can be reduced with energy saving and maintenance recommendations. In particular, the efficient use of devices such as refrigerators, electric heaters, and deep freezers, which consume the most energy, is of great importance for conscious consumption.
