Vulnerability discovered in Apple devices: Leads to spyware infection

Citizen Lab researchers announced that they have discovered spyware linked to the Israeli firm NSO that exploits a newly identified vulnerability in Apple devices.

In a statement, Citizen Lab noted that while examining the Apple device of an employee at a Washington-based civil society group last week, they determined that the vulnerability in question was used to infect the device with NSO's Pegasus spyware.

The researchers did not provide further details regarding the affected individual or organization.

The digital watchdog stated that the vulnerability allows iPhones running the latest version of iOS (16.6) to be compromised without any interaction from the user.

Apple released new updates for its devices after investigating the flaws reported by Citizen Lab. Citizen Lab urged consumers to update their devices.

Meanwhile, the Israeli firm has been blacklisted by the U.S. government since 2021 due to allegations of abuse, including the surveillance of government officials and journalists.
