Way to get rid of nightmares through exercise discovered
A study conducted at the University of Texas has revealed that daily exercise can reduce the likelihood of having nightmares.
Scientists from the University of Texas have determined that at least 60 minutes of physical activity daily improves people's sleep at night and reduces the risk of having nightmares. According to the study, individuals who exercise spend more time in deeper stages of sleep by shortening the duration of REM sleep, the stage where dreams occur.
The study covers a wide range of activities, from high-intensity exercises like running and cycling to low-intensity activities such as walking or household chores. Any physical activity that increased the participants' heart rates was included in the daily exercise goals.

RESEARCH PROCESS AND FINDINGS
In the six-month study, 82 participants were asked to wear smartwatches to track their sleep quality and exercise duration. These devices recorded the participants' heart rates and body movements, determining when they transitioned into different stages of sleep and the amount of daily exercise performed.
Researchers observed that on days when participants exercised, they spent less time in REM sleep but more time in the deep sleep stages preceding REM. These findings suggest that exercise can improve sleep quality and reduce the likelihood of having nightmares.
The results of the study were published in the journal Scientific Reports.
