It has been determined when unused mobile phones will be deactivated

The news that the IMEI numbers of mobile phones that have not been actively used within the last year will be suspended has worried many users. This regulation is presented as a measure against fraudulent activities.

Mustafa Kemal Turnacı, President of the Mobile Communication Tools and Information Technologies Business People Association (MOBİSAD), stated that the practice aims to increase user security. Responding to questions from technology content creator Samet Jankovic, Turnacı said, 'The IMEI addresses of unused phones in Turkey can become targets for fraudsters. For this reason, the IMEI numbers of phones that have not been turned on for a year will be suspended.' However, he added that if these phones are desired to be used again, an application can be made via e-Devlet.

This practice, which has been in effect in Turkey for two years, stipulates that the IMEI numbers of unused phones will be rendered passive as of December 31, 2025. Users will need to apply for IMEI reactivation and receive approval to make these phones active again.
