Abdullah Kavukcu: VAR needs to start looking at incidents more carefully

In the 13th week of the Trendyol Super Lig, Galatasaray defeated their guests Gençlerbirliği with a score of 3-2. Following the match, Galatasaray Sportif AŞ Deputy Chairman Abdullah Kavukcu made statements to members of the press.

Speaking about the refereeing decisions in the match, Kavukcu said, "We always speak up to protect our rights. Our fans should be certain of this. Regarding the match we watched today, there was a point President İbrahim mentioned before: 'Referees can make mistakes, but VAR cannot.' We want the necessary investigations to be conducted regarding this issue. Today, in the Sallai incident, the boy's leg could have been broken. It is in the recordings; everyone can watch and see it. After that incident, the same referee made a different decision in a similar situation at a different stadium before. We want to draw attention to this. We want the necessary steps to be taken regarding this matter. We do not want to stir up tensions, but VAR needs to start looking at incidents more carefully. There is the Barış incident, there are other various incidents. The atmosphere gets tense during the match. We are only making this statement today to draw attention to it," he said.

Abdullah Kavukcu also responded to a question about whether he had a tense encounter with the Sports Branch police during the match, saying, "It was not a tension. There was filming going on at that moment. We never have tensions with the Sports Branch or our police. Of course, there can be tense conversations between us during a match. There is no disrespect or problem."

"I THINK THE RIGHT REFEREES NEED TO BE SELECTED FOR THE FENERBAHÇE MATCH"

Stating that the right referee appointments must be made for the Fenerbahçe derby they will play in the 14th week of the Super Lig, Kavukcu said, "We also play in the Champions League. Referees come in the Champions League as well. We have never once come out and spoken or argued. I trust Turkish referees. I do not want to talk about these things too much in this environment, but I think the referees assigned to VAR should be more careful, and specifically, I think the right referees need to be selected for the Fenerbahçe match. We are putting in the effort here. No one's rights should be violated," he said.
