Atletico Madrid advances on penalties

After losing the first leg 1-0 in the UEFA Champions League Round of 16, Atletico Madrid defeated Inter 2-1 in the return leg, sending the match to extra time. With the deadlock remaining, the Spanish side secured a 3-2 victory in the penalty shootout to reach the quarterfinals.

Atletico Madrid advances on penalties

In the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 second leg, Atletico Madrid hosted Inter. The Italian side took a 1-0 lead in the 33rd minute through Dimarco, but the Spanish representatives equalized in the 35th minute with Griezmann, and the first half ended in a 1-1 draw. 

Atletico Madrid took a 2-1 lead with a goal from Depay in the 87th minute, and as no further goals were scored in regulation time, the match went to extra time. 

With the score remaining level through extra time, the match went to a penalty shootout. In the penalties, the Madrid side secured a 3-2 victory over their opponents to book their place in the quarterfinals.

Meanwhile, Turkish national player Hakan Çalhanoğlu, who plays for Inter, started in the starting 11 and remained on the pitch for the full 120 minutes.
