Aziz Yıldırım reacts to Fenerbahçe management over 'Super Cup'! 'An insult stuck to our jersey...'

As the 31st week of the Süper Lig comes to an end, all eyes have turned to the Super Cup match to be played between Galatasaray and Fenerbahçe on April 7.

The Turkish Football Federation (TFF) rejected Fenerbahçe's request to postpone the Super Cup match date due to European fixtures.

Fenerbahçe, in turn, decided to protest the TFF by opting to field its U19 team in the Super Cup match.

The former president of the Yellow-Navies, Aziz Yıldırım, reacted to this decision by the management.

Yıldırım's statements regarding the Super Cup are as follows:

"Our U19 team is also a valuable part of the Fenerbahçe Sports Club. With the jersey on their backs and the crest on their chests, they represent the Fenerbahçe Sports Club and its high values. The oak branch on our club's crest is a symbol of the strength of Fenerbahçe fans, and the green color is a symbol of the desire for success. Our athletes, who carry this crest on their chests, are obliged to show the strength of Fenerbahçe, to fight to be successful, and ultimately to make their rivals envious. Fielding our U19 team, which carries our jersey and crest, in the Super Cup Final to cause the match to be abandoned would be an insult to our jersey and crest, and an injustice to our youth wearing this jersey.

While participating in the Super Cup final with the A-Team or not participating at all might be an option, appearing in the Super Cup Final with the U19 team should not be an option for our Club. This possibility is merely a cowardly solution taken to avoid the sporting and legal penalties that the administrators and the club might face in the future. Members of the Fenerbahçe Sports Club do not fear. No member of Fenerbahçe would lead our 117-year-old Club toward such ridiculous and unserious solutions to overcome personal fears. Remember that the brave die once, while the cowardly die every day. Our opinion is to take the field in the Super Cup Final to be played on April 7 with the A-Team squad. Abandoning the idea of appearing in the Super Cup Final with the U19 team is not a situation that can be criticized. Playing this final is a right earned as a result of our club's sporting success. This right was earned with the sweat shed by our players and technical staff, and the support of our fans. Not playing this final match would be gifting a cup to our rival, who is accustomed to taking cups won through favors and prayers to their museum, in a similar way, even though it was not deserved.

Whatever the conditions, we have full faith that our team will defeat Galatasaray in the Super Cup Final and win the cup. Our history is full of matches where we frustrated Galatasaray in many games where the conditions were against us. Galatasaray matches are a holiday for Fenerbahçe fans. The date of April 7 will also be our new holiday. We are certain that our current A-Team players will fight in a way that will make our crest proud, that they will reflect their efforts on the field until the last drop of their sweat, and in short, that they will give the necessary response to Galatasaray and the dark structure that puts various obstacles in our way on the field in a manner worthy of our 117-year history; we believe in them and trust them in this match and all their remaining matches."
