Bad news from Zeynep Sönmez: Forced to withdraw from the match
National tennis player Zeynep Sönmez, competing at the French Open, has been eliminated from the tournament following an unfortunate injury during the second round of the doubles match.
Representing Turkey at Roland Garros, the second grand slam tournament of the season, Zeynep Sönmez took to the court in the second round of doubles with her partner, German player Tatjana Maria. In the match held in Paris, the Sönmez-Maria duo was playing against their Ukrainian opponents, Anhelina Kalinina and Dayana Yastremska.
While the score was 2-0 in favor of the opponents in the first set, Zeynep Sönmez tripped over the advertising boards and fell while trying to reach a fast ball. After the injury, it was determined by the medical team that she could not continue the game, and the national athlete was forced to withdraw from the doubles category.
Zeynep Sönmez had also competed in the singles section of the tournament, where she was eliminated in the first round after losing to Australian player Daria Kasatkina.
