It has been announced that German goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen, who suffered an injury during Barcelona's match against Villarreal, has sustained a complete rupture of the patellar tendon in his right knee.


In the 6th week of the Spanish La Liga, Barcelona defeated Villarreal 5-1 away from home. German goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen was injured in the 44th minute of the match following a corner kick taken by Villarreal and was replaced by Inaki Pena. Barcelona announced that the German goalkeeper had suffered a complete rupture of the patellar tendon in his right knee. Ter Stegen is not expected to play for the remainder of the season due to the injury.

The 32-year-old goalkeeper has made 7 appearances in his 11th season with Barcelona, including 6 in the Spanish La Liga and 1 in the Champions League. Following Ter Stegen's injury, Spanish goalkeeper Inaki Pena, who previously played on loan at Galatasaray for half a season, is expected to take his place for the rest of the season.
