Beşiktaş narrows the gap to 2-1 in the final series

In the third game of the Türkiye Sigorta Basketball Super League play-off final series, Beşiktaş defeated their guests Fenerbahçe Beko 98-77. With the series now at 2-1, the 4th game will again be hosted by the black-and-whites.

Beşiktaş narrows the gap to 2-1 in the final series

The third game of the Basketball Super League play-off final series was played at the Basketball Development Center. The yellow-navies started the match with a 7-0 run, finding baskets through Nigel Hayes, McCollum, and Emre Ekşioğlu in the opening minutes. After Berk Uğurlu scored the first points for the black-and-whites, Jonah Mathews hit a 3-pointer. As Fenerbahçe missed shots on offense and left gaps in defense, the score was tied before the television timeout. 7-7

Taking the lead for the first time in the match with a layup by Mathews, Beşiktaş extended the lead with Yiğit and Mathews, going on a 14-0 run with 3 minutes and 2 seconds remaining. While the 17-0 run ended with a free throw by Metecan Birsen, the black-and-whites finished the first quarter leading 22-9. The second period of the match began with baskets from the paint by both teams, while the hosts extended the lead through Allman, Plavsic, and Needham. After Emanuel Terry scored from the free-throw line, Yiğit Arslan scored from the paint, extending the lead to 22. 

The visiting team found their first basket after a long time through Wade Baldwin, and the yellow-navies scored 8 points in their next 3 possessions through the American player. After mutual baskets by Devon Hall and Mathews, Beşiktaş hit consecutive 3-pointers from Berk Uğurlu and Yiğit Arslan. In the final possession, Devon Hall hit a 3-pointer, and the teams headed to the locker room with a score of 50-31.

The second half of the match began with a layup by Melih Mahmutoğlu, and the first 3 minutes were spent with mutual baskets. While the yellow-navies found points through Khem Birch in the following section, Baldwin responded to Sleva's 3-pointer from the sideline, and the 5-minute mark passed with a score of 63-46. Beşiktaş, facing an opponent that returned empty-handed from their possessions, found another 3-pointer through Mathews and extended the lead to 18 again. After baskets by Plavsic from the paint, the 3rd period ended 72-56.

The final quarter of the derby began with a 3-pointer by Marko Guduric. While Yiğit Arslan scored his team's first points of this period, the yellow-navies committed consecutive turnovers. With the effective play of Plavsic and Mathews, Beşiktaş managed to maintain the lead and entered the final 4 minutes with a 16-point advantage. Jonah Mathews hit consecutive 3-pointers in the final section and also assisted Plavsic in the paint, extending the lead to 26. While Errick McCollum hit a 3-pointer in the final possession for Fenerbahçe, the 3rd game of the final series ended with a 98-77 victory for the black-and-whites.

In the derby, Jonah Mathews was the top scorer with 25 points, while Yiğit Arslan scored 22 points and played an important role in the victory. For the visiting team, Devon Hall and Wade Baldwin each played with 14 points.

The 4th game of the final series will be played on Monday, June 23, at 20.30 at the Basketball Development Center.
